Repairs

Most repairs are done by scheduled drop-off.

  • Software & upgrades

    $130 labor

Software fixes and simple upgrades: more memory (RAM) or a faster drive (SSD). Parts are extra.

  • Hardware repairs

    $165 labor + parts

Replacing broken parts, such as screens and keyboards.

  • Mac repairs

    $200 labor + parts

I check first that your Mac model can be fixed.

Every repair starts with a $75 diagnostic deposit. It goes toward an approved repair. If you decline the repair, or work stops because I find pests or hazardous contamination, the deposit is not refunded.

Pickup, on-site visits and business projects

A standard on-site visit is for a problem I can fix while I’m there, and it costs the same for homes and businesses. A business project is planned work with its own quote.

  • Pickup & delivery

    $30 add-on, total

For software repairs and simple upgrades. $30 covers picking up your computer and bringing it back.

  • Standard on-site visit

$160 includes up to 2 hours

I come to your home or business. After two hours, extra time is $60 an hour. Homes and businesses pay the same visit rates.

  • Business projects

    $75 per hour

Planned work, like new Wi-Fi, cameras or a firewall, with its own plan and quote. Getting equipment ready at my office may add a quoted setup charge. Advanced projects are quoted separately.

The $75 project rate applies only to planned business work quoted as a project. Extra time on a standard visit stays $60 an hour.

Data recovery and extraction

Getting important files off an old computer, an external drive or a failing device. You pay one of these totals, never both, and a $75 deposit you already paid counts toward it.

  • Files recovered

    $100 total

If I get your files back.

  • No files recovered

    $75 total

If I can’t recover any data, the attempt costs $75 in total.

I’ll do my best, but recovery isn’t guaranteed. A failing drive can take several days. About data recovery

Good to know

How the deposit works

Example: $130 labor, minus the $75 deposit you already paid, leaves $55 labor due. Approved parts and any tax are added.

The deposit pays for checking the device. It doesn’t promise the device can be fixed or that data can be saved. Covered warranty rechecks do not require another diagnostic deposit.

Warranty

  • Software repair work has a 30-day warranty for the same issue or work performed.
  • Hardware repair work has a six-month warranty covering the hardware actually replaced or worked on and the related workmanship.

Backup included

A backup is included with every desktop, laptop and Mac repair. When you drop off your computer, backing it up is my first step, if the computer and its drive are in good enough shape to read. Please also back up what you can before you bring it in, especially important files.

If a drive is failing or files can’t be read, a backup may not be possible. Don’t keep turning a failing computer on to try. Turn it off and tell me. Getting files off a failing drive is data recovery, which is priced separately.

No surprise charges

If I find a different problem or the job needs more work, I explain it and ask before adding any charge or ordering parts. Remote help is by appointment, priced before the session.

How repairs work

  1. Book a drop-off.

I’ll confirm a day and time with you.

  2. Get the findings and approve the work.

I check it and explain your options. Nothing is fixed until you say yes.

  3. Pick up your tested computer.

I fix and test it, then we set a pickup time.
