Terms of Service
Plain-language terms for scheduling service, dropping off a computer, or working with Assure Computer Solutions.
Effective October 20, 2026
The short version
- Service is by appointment. A request isn’t booked until I confirm it with you.
- Every repair starts with a $75 diagnostic deposit. It goes toward the repair you approve.
- Please make sure you’re allowed to request work on the equipment. Nothing chargeable is added without your OK.
- If I find pests or hazardous contamination, work stops, I ask you to pick the equipment up promptly, and the deposit is not refunded.
- Please collect your equipment within 30 days after I tell you it’s ready, or contact me to arrange another date.
- I only publish photos or video of your repair with your separate permission.
- Desktop, laptop and Mac repairs include a backup when the drive can still be read. It can’t be promised from a failing drive.
- I look at your files only as the work needs, and I ask first before anything that would erase them.
- Testing can bring out problems a computer already has. A turnaround time is an estimate, not a promise.
- Software work is covered for 30 days. Hardware work is covered for six months.
This summary does not replace the full terms below.
Working with Tyler
Assure Computer Solutions provides computer repair and practical technology help for homes and small businesses. I’m Tyler, the owner and person handling your service.
Service is by appointment. Please schedule before stopping by so I can be available and ready for your visit. A website request does not reserve a time until I confirm it with you.
Before diagnostic or repair work begins, I’ll explain the service and charges and ask for your authorization. An inquiry by itself does not authorize work.
Who can request service
Please make sure you are authorized to request service on the equipment and have valid licenses for software you ask me to install. If the equipment belongs to someone else, such as an employer or a school, please check that they agree to the work.
I may decline work that would bypass licensing, ownership or security protections.
What your approval covers
Approving a diagnosis lets me check the equipment in, look into the problem and run the tests needed to find the cause. It does not approve a repair.
Approving a repair lets me do the work and order the parts we agreed on, at the price we agreed on.
If I find something else that needs work, or the cost would change, I explain it and ask first. Nothing chargeable is added without your approval, and you can say no. Steps that would erase or replace your files need separate approval (see Access to your files and accounts).
Diagnostic deposit
A $75 diagnostic deposit applies to all repairs. It covers checking the device in, investigating the issue and working out the repair options. It is credited toward an approved repair.
The deposit is not refunded if you decide not to go ahead after I check the device, or if work stops because of pests or hazardous contamination (see Pests, contamination and stopping work).
If you cancel before I start working on the device, contact me so we can arrange a refund or reschedule. The deposit does not guarantee that a device can be repaired or that data can be recovered.
For data recovery or extraction, a deposit already paid counts toward the recovery total described below.
Repair pricing and approval
General software repairs and simple hardware maintenance, such as RAM or SSD work, are $130 in labor. Hardware replacements, such as screens and keyboards, are $165 in labor plus parts. Mac repairs are $200 in labor plus parts. Parts for simple maintenance or upgrades are also separate.
Repairs are primarily handled through scheduled drop-off. Pickup and delivery is available for software repairs and simple upgrades as a $30 add-on in total.
A standard on-site visit is a $160 minimum, which includes up to two hours. Additional on-site time is $60 per hour. These on-site rates are the same for homes and businesses.
Business projects are different from a standard on-site visit. They are planned work with their own quote. Project labor is $75 per hour; it does not change the rate for extra time on a standard visit. Preparing and testing equipment at my office, such as firewalls, cameras or access points, may involve a separate setup charge, which is quoted before you agree. More advanced projects are quoted separately, and your quote says which rates apply. Remote support is quoted before the session.
Data recovery or extraction is $100 in total if I recover data, or $75 in total if I cannot recover any data. These are alternative totals, not added together, and no daily charge is added when the work takes several days. Recovery is attempted on a best-effort basis and is not guaranteed. I do not open sealed hard drives or provide clean-room recovery; a physically damaged drive may need a specialist recovery lab.
I’ll explain the expected work, labor, and parts before proceeding. If investigation reveals a different problem or additional work is needed, I’ll discuss the options and get your approval before adding charges or ordering parts. You can decline further work; completed diagnostic work remains covered by the deposit.
Testing and hidden problems
Finding a fault often means testing the computer under load, for example its memory, drive, processor and cooling. Testing can bring out weaknesses the computer already has, and a part that is already failing, such as a worn drive, may get worse or stop working during testing or repair. When I can see a risk like that beforehand, I’ll tell you and we’ll decide together how to go on.
Some problems can’t be found until the first one is fixed. A laptop with a broken screen or charging port, for example, may show another fault once it powers on and displays again. If that happens, I’ll explain what I found and what fixing it would cost. More chargeable work needs your approval. The work you already approved is still charged, and it stays covered by the Service Guarantee.
A part failing while your equipment is with me is not automatically anyone’s fault. Nothing in these terms limits my responsibility under applicable law for damage caused by my own work.
Parts and timing
Parts availability, shipping, testing, and newly discovered issues can affect completion time. Any turnaround time I give is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion date, and I’ll keep you informed of meaningful changes. If you rely on the computer for work or school, please plan for some time without it.
I can source parts or discuss using parts you supply. Compatibility or defective parts may delay the repair. Any additional labor required will be discussed before proceeding. Manufacturer or seller coverage applies to customer-supplied parts; my workmanship is addressed in the Service Guarantee.
Payment
Payment is due when the approved service is completed unless we agree otherwise. Your invoice will show approved labor, parts, deposit credit, and applicable taxes or other charges discussed in advance. Collection is by appointment (see Collecting your equipment).
Collecting your equipment
Please collect your equipment within 30 days after I notify you that it is ready, or contact me to arrange another collection date. This also applies when a repair is declined or service is stopped. Collection is by appointment.
Keep your contact information current. If equipment remains uncollected, I will make documented attempts to contact you and provide any notices required by applicable Texas law before taking further action.
Missing the collection deadline does not automatically transfer ownership of your equipment or authorize its sale, disposal or deletion of your files.
Pests, contamination and stopping work
To protect my workspace and other customers’ equipment, I stop work immediately if pests, evidence of infestation, or hazardous contamination are found during service. I will take reasonable steps to isolate or contain the affected equipment and contact you as soon as possible to arrange prompt pickup.
The diagnostic deposit is not refundable, even if diagnosis is incomplete. I will share any findings available at that point, but no further diagnosis or repair will be performed.
Backups and your data
A backup is included with desktop, laptop and Mac repairs. When a computer is dropped off, making a backup is my first step where the device and its drive are in good enough condition to read. A backup may not be possible from a failing drive or from data that is already inaccessible, and it is not a promise that every file, program or account can be restored. Retrieving files from a failing or unreadable drive is data recovery, priced separately.
Please also back up important files before service whenever possible, and let me know if protecting particular files is the priority. If a drive appears to be failing, do not keep powering the device on to make a backup; turn it off and tell me. Data recovery is best effort and cannot be guaranteed.
Access to your files and accounts
Diagnosis, backup, recovery and repair mean working with your files and settings. I access them only as reasonably needed for the work you approved, for example to copy files for the included backup, recover files, check that programs work or confirm a repair. Repairs often replace or change system and program files.
Wiping a drive, reinstalling the operating system, resetting the device, or any other step expected to erase or replace your files needs your separate approval first, even during an approved repair. Removing malware can mean quarantining or deleting infected files, including personal files; I explain this when you approve that work.
Please provide accurate information about the problem. If account access or a recovery key is necessary, I’ll explain how to provide it appropriately. Please do not send passwords through the general contact form.
Privacy and legally required reporting
I do not search your personal files for unlawful content. During normal diagnosis, backup, recovery or repair, filenames, thumbnails or other content may appear incidentally.
If I encounter images that are or appear to be child sexual abuse material, I will immediately report the discovery as required by Texas law. I may stop work and follow lawful instructions from the appropriate authorities, which can affect when your equipment is returned. Any disclosure will be limited to what is legally required or permitted.
Otherwise, I share information about you or your equipment only as described in the Privacy Policy.
Photos and videos of repairs
I sometimes make educational repair videos, for example on YouTube. I may ask whether I can photograph or film your equipment and the repair.
I only publish photos or video of your equipment or repair with your separate permission. Agreeing to a repair, paying a deposit or sending an inquiry does not give that permission. Saying no does not affect your service in any way.
If you agree, I keep anything that could identify you out of what I publish: names, contact information, serial numbers, account details, passwords, private files, on-screen notifications and similar details. If a shot can’t be made without showing something like that, I don’t publish it. Permission covers only the photos or video of that repair. It does not give me any right to your files, accounts or other personal information.
Service warranty
Software repair work has a 30-day warranty for the same issue or work performed. Hardware repair work has a six-month warranty covering the hardware actually replaced or worked on and the related workmanship. It does not cover the entire computer or unrelated components.
New or unrelated problems, ordinary wear, and damage caused after the repair by drops, liquid, misuse, or power events are outside the service warranty.
See the Service Guarantee page for what is covered and how to request help. If you believe a covered issue has returned, please contact me so I can arrange a recheck.
Remote support
Remote sessions are scheduled in advance. A session starts only when you open the support app and connect. During an authorized session, I may view and control your device to help resolve the issue you asked about. Close private files and windows before connecting. You can end the session at any time.
Some issues require hands-on service. Third-party account access, internet availability, or hardware failure may limit what can be completed remotely. The approval, file-access and reporting terms above also apply to remote sessions.
Questions and changes
If something does not seem right after service, contact me and I’ll help determine the next step. These terms do not remove rights or remedies that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Updates apply to future service arrangements. The terms agreed for an existing job remain the reference for that job unless we agree to a change.
