What I do

I check whether it’s a fake browser alert or real malware. Then I remove the bad programs and add-ons, undo changed settings, and explain how to avoid it next time.

Common problems I fix

  • Pop-ups that say you’re infected or tell you to call a number
  • A browser that opens pages you didn’t choose
  • New programs or add-ons you don’t recognize
  • Security software that was turned off
  • Odd messages after clicking a suspicious link

If I find a different problem, like a failing drive, I’ll explain it and ask before doing more.

You’ll know the cost before I start.

  • Software & upgrades

    $130 labor

If you decline the repair, the deposit is not refunded. Deposit terms

What your repair includes

  • A diagnosis in plain words. I find the cause and explain it, so you can decide what to do.
  • A repair plan and price you approve. Nothing chargeable is added without your OK. Final pricing can depend on what I find.
  • A backup attempt. When the computer and its drive can still be read. Failing drives and unreadable files may need separately priced data recovery.
  • Testing for the repair. I test the parts and software I worked on before you pick it up.
  • Repair warranty. 30 days on software work for the same issue, or six months on the parts I replace or work on and the related workmanship. It covers my work, not the whole computer.

How it works

  1. Tell me what’s wrong.

Send a request or call. I’ll confirm a drop-off time with you.

  2. I check it and you approve the price.

You get my findings in plain words. Nothing is fixed until you say yes.

  3. Pick up your tested computer.

I fix and test it, then we set a pickup time.

Common questions

Is a pop-up telling me to call a number real?

No. It’s a common scam. Don’t call the number, don’t let anyone connect to your computer, and don’t pay. Close the browser. If you already gave someone access or card details, contact me and your bank right away.

Should I change my passwords?

Yes, if you typed passwords into a strange page or let someone connect. Change them from a different, safe device. I can help you decide which ones.

Can you promise it won’t come back?

No one can promise that. Software repair work has a 30-day warranty for the same issue or work performed. See the Service Guarantee for details.

Not sure what’s wrong?

Tell me what’s happening. I’ll contact you about the next step. Drop-off and pickup by appointment.
